Opportunity Starts With Education
About
Exploring Digital Humanities
Education lies at the cornerstone of America’s future. It is our job as citizens to ensure the growth and improvement of the education system, making sure that each child is given enough resources and support to develop no matter what environment they are subject to. This Project aims to explore what factors are associated with higher educational opportunity scores across California. We focused our research on population densities and racial/ethnic composition. We hope to find what factors influence opportunity score the most so that we may highlight inequalities and start to make improvements.
Digital Humanities applies advanced data based technology to study fields of humanities like art, history, literature, etc. For the final project of UCLA’s Digital Humanities 101 course, our team has worked to develop a web-based mini-site that explores childhood education opportunities from multiple perspectives. We based our research and analysis on the COI 3.0 dataset, which evaluates education opportunity by considering many factors, including but not limited to school resources, academic performance, and household income. Through this project, we aimed to utilize what skills we have learned through this course to construct an impactful, meaningful web-page.

Question Two

Question three
Have certain counties improved or worsened in educational opportunities, and what factors may have contributed to these changes?
